The cost of authority: Manipulation and freedom in the New Testament (liberal?)

Is the language of freedom and peace credible on the lips of Christians? The record is hardly impressive and it is Graham Shaw's bold assertion that Christian oppression begins in the New Testament where imperious commands are backed up by specious promises and a dislike of other people.

By using Paul's letters as a starting point and then proceeding to the Gospel of Mark, Shaw exposes blatant contradictions between the espousal of love, freedom, and peace and the promotion of that message through devious strategies of control and manipulation. If the author of this book is correct, the reader will see many things in the New Testament which he or she might wish were not there. Surely, the careful reader will never see some things in the same way again.
